PUNDAK HAYAM (Netanya)

 

“Pundak HaYam” is one of the most famous restaurants in Netanya, existing for almost 50 years. It can boats of a long list of thousands satisfied clients, that often visited this legendary restaurant for many years.

The “Pundak HaYam” in Netanya pedestrian zone was opened in 1964 my men of Kocer family: Moshe, Shaul and David. “We were young, in our twenties or something like that, and we wanted to achieve our dream” – Kcer smiles at the memories – “it was hard times. We had no money and I sold my apartment in Ramat Gan to become a partner. I remember how we chose the name of the restaurant. It should be “pundak” because it was popular in the sixties. “Yam (Sea)” was the shortest name we could think about, you know, every letter on the sign costs money and we had to be very careful in spending.”

Several years passed, and “Pundak HaYam” in Netanya has become a popular place. After the Six-Day War, the city was seething. The crisis passed, the diamond industry in Netanya reached its peakю Residents were celebrating and eating in restaurant, and “Pundak HaYam” became one of the most successful restaurants in the city due to excellent meat and fresh fish dishes, but mainly due to the original hummus.
“Pundak HaYam” is a home and some people lives there for more than 40 years.

Businessmen, politicians, artists, footballers and their catwalk models have transformed the restaurant into a permanent meeting place for lunch, and we must say that the reason most likely lies not in its appearance or design. All this is because of food!
